However, we could prevent these types of viruses from occurring by maintaining a healthy and balanced lifestyle. Here a few guidelines to prevent or minimize fever, colds and flu. • Have a simple daily routine of exercise. Exercise improves the immune system and reduces the risk of colds and fever. Constant exercise has been proven and tested to be one of the best immune boosters in this era. So sweat it out and you will feel the best results. It would only take thirty to forty five minutes of walking or running per day. • Hygiene and cleanliness is very important. Always clean your fingers and fingernails; wash your hands before eating. Also, prevent your hands from touching your nose and mouth when you have cleaned or washed them. Have a disinfectant or hand sanitizer everywhere you go. Also, use paper towels or tissues after you have washed your hands when you are in public restrooms; then throw them immediately after using them. • Take enough rest and sleep everyday. Stressed out people have the higher risk of being infected by several viruses. The human body needs rest; our immune system and muscles could be affected when we lack sleep. Muscles recover when you are sleeping. It is better to sleep and rest when your muscles are strained and tired. So always find time to sleep seven to eight hours of sleep everyday. • Take flu vaccines. Vaccines can prevent cough, headaches, runny nose and sore throat for adults. Vaccines are preparations to weaken or kill pathogens such as viruses and bacterium. Vaccines are available for adults and are not exclusively for children only. • Drink seven to eight glasses of water a day. Water is important to our body; it removes the toxic wastes and harmful substances in our body. Proper circulation of nutrients to cells and organs in our body will not work properly if we are dehydrated. Water is very vital to our cells and organs. Just drink more water and fewer beverages to help prevent viruses and illness in your body. • Quit vices such as smoking and excessive drinking of alcoholic beverages. Moderate drinking of liquor is actually a healthy way of living; it reduces the chances of heart attacks and strokes because it prevents the arteries from clogging with fats. However, excess drinking of alcohol could cause heart disease and high blood pressure. Smoking, on the other hand, weakens our immune system and bone density. Smokers are prone to viruses and medical conditions. Studies also confirm that smoking causes high level of stress, which is very different form popular belief that smoking relieves stress. |
