In this modern era, we have become a society of stressed out people. We have been living unhealthy lives and we work harder and longer than our parents and grandparents ever did. There are many factors to our high level of stress such as job insecurity, the shaky economy and the constantly rising cost of living. But there are these other factors to our stress that we don't necessarily need such as watching cable television all night long and going to night clubs. Stress in our life is often self-inflicted; we are the ones who can control the amount of stress we can have or handle. Even with the factors and outside forces, we can still live a stress free life and we can decide how busy we can be. A healthy person can easily manage stress. To manage stress requires proper diet, enough rest and regular exercise. Here are some guidelines to living a stress free life. • Identify your immediate priorities and learn to say no. There are many things that demand your attention and your services. Identify first on what is important for you and learn to say no when you think it is not a priority in your daily life. Pick out your priorities and categorize the rest of your concerns. Be organized as you can be to avoid high levels of stress. Sometimes you have to turn down offers from your friends, officemates and family members to lessen your stress in your life. • Find out the causes and bearers of your stress and try to avoid or if not resolve them. Our respective jobs are the primary source of our stress; however, we can't just quit immediately anytime we want. In a job, the work itself is not causing you the stress. Factors such as a stressful environment, annoying coworkers and office politics are the primary sources of stress in your job. Try to resolve them. Find ways to make your office look as less stressful as it should be and find ways to minimize your encounters with your annoying coworker. Try to suggest another system in your office. • Take a break from your cellphone and computer. Just try doing it for a weekend and you will feel relieved and free. Sometimes having them around in your free time would make you feel incomplete and uneasy, because it will remind you of your deadlines and pending work. It will lead to you to working during your free time. Having them around is a temptation for you to work. So try to get away from them sometimes to minimize your stress. • Find the time to relax. Develop a hobby or devote an hour every week for relaxing activities. Find time for yourself and relax while you're at it. Activities such as watching movies, reading, a body or foot massage or even playing sports could do well for you. Find certain activities that could make you relax and enjoy what you are doing. |
